Throwback: DJ Mike & DJ 9-Volt Spinning The 2010 Halloween & Homecoming Celebration At The Hall of Flags (Houston Hall @ University of Pennsylvania)

1 Comment Events, Mixes

Going back to campus (Go Quakers!) is always weird for me. No matter how many times I go back, I go through the same thing. I look around and the buildings look the same for the most part. There are still kids walking around headed to the cafeteria, to class, to the library, etc.

But no matter how little things have changed from the time when I was in school, things are invariably different.  I will not see a familiar face in the crowd. I will not run into a crowd of friends who will drag me to the bar instead of letting me study at the library. And parties? Forget about it. The chances of me seeing my friends’ faces light up when I play “our song” are slim to none.

Unless, of course, we’re DJ’ing the PAACH Anniversary Party and the Taste of Penn Homecoming Celebration.  Mike and I did just that this past Halloween.   It was great to see everyone getting down to the old songs, especially the line dancing. It was also one of the rare times that I got to walk around in public as my true self. That’s right, you heard it here first. DJ 9-Volt is just my cover identity. In reality, I am The Flash. And I’ve been working out. Can you tell?

In any case, all of the reminiscing led me to post this mix. I hope those of you listening can share in my nostalgia.

Peace and lumpia grease.

No Comments Events, Philanthropic

We here at The Remixologists are aware of how lucky we are to make a living doing what we love! So when there’s a chance to give back to our community, we get involved. We have worked with APEX on various events over the past few years and we are happy to team up with them again! If you are in the New York metro area, please consider coming out and supporting a great organization. We WILL be getting busy on the turntables!

About APEX:
“APEX, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization, empowers underserved youth, particularly Asian American students, in New York City through a combination of one-to-one mentoring relationships and educational programs. APEX was founded to support the development of healthy identities and future leaders through a powerful, comprehensive model that allows students to have an unparalleled advantage through a sustained engagement of up to 8 years. Now in its nineteenth year, APEX has attracted thousands of volunteers and has served thousands of youth, many of whom are now mentors and volunteers themselves.”

Throwback: Plate by Plate 2009

No Comments Events, Philanthropic

We had the most amazing time DJing for Plate by Plate back in October 2009. Plate by Plate is an annual tasting benefit put on by our friends at Project by Project to raise funds for Asian Americans for Equality, in order to provide immigrant assistance, affordable housing, and economic development to diverse communities during this economic crisis.

The food was awesome – chocolate souffle cupcakes from Kyotofu, tuna tartare from Geisha, and ice cream from Van Leeuwen…it was as if the best of NYC all crammed into one place on one night. The entertainment was pretty high quality too – we got to see a few bands, one of which is called Stone Forest Ensemble and featured a crazy beatboxer, cellist, violinist, and drummer…it was an odd combination to see but when they got up on the stage, everybody was like “WHOA!”

And of course, DJ Taiga & DJ Mike got people out on the floor dancing. That was when Jay-Z’s Empire State of Mind first became an anthem for New Yorkers. I think they played it 5 times to that night and the NYC crowd ate it up. All in all, it was a good night… good food, good music, good times!
